The Trump-supporting organizers of the “Straight pride” parade in Boston Saturday tried to resurrect gay flame-throwing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, using him as their grand marshal for what counter-protesters considered a white supremacist exhibition. The “Super Happy Fun America” organizers apparently didn’t care that Yiannopoulos has been shunned by the alt right since he was forced to resign in Feb. 2017 as a senior editor at Breitbart News and rebuked by Conservative Political Action Conference for joking about pedophilia and having sex with a Catholic priest when he was a teenager.
Marchers in a "Straight Pride" parade descended upon downtown Boston but counter demonstrators assembled to greet them.
Parade marchers held cards and posters with slogans like "Straight Lives Matter" and "Make Normalcy Normal Again".
Many waved American flags. A "Trump 2020" sign featured prominently on one truck.
The parade's path wound its way from Copley Square to City Hall, where many counterprotesters gathered. The demonstration drew a heavy police presence.
The Boston Police Department had not released reports on arrests as of Saturday evening.
Several dozen marchers gathered in the parade, organised by a group called Super Happy Fun America. Far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos served as the parade's grand marshal.
Organisers claimed that straight people are oppressed.
