1:34Now PlayingIDAHO FALLS -- East Idaho Eats: The Rexburger
VO: Twice cooked fries, and burgers wrapped in fry bread, these unique meals are gaining fans all over east Idaho thanks to one 25-year-old Rigby native was ambitious about starting her own business.
SOT: “I really like cooking for people I guess so I decided to do a food truck,” Owner Monica Young said.
VO: Monica Young’s new food truck the Rexburger is serving up gourmet burgers with a different spin.
SOT: “I actually conjoined two different recipes. I took the Indian fry bread recipe and then a Hungarian fry bread recipe, and I combined the two of them and I call it ‘Idaho Fry Bread,’” Young said. “It has Idaho potatoes in it.”
VO: Instead of a traditional bun, she wraps her burger combos in flat bread dough and cooks them in a deep fryer
SOT: “It’s definitely a lot more work, but I believe it tastes a lot better, it’s not messy,” Young said. “When it’s wrapped in the fry bread it’s a lot more easy to manage."
STAND UP: Today I’m going to try the Rexburger and it’s actually one of their signature dishes. It’s fry bread wrapped around burger bacon and steak. Mmm. Love that. The fry bread keeps all of the burger in and it’s super crispy on the outside.
VO: Young said another favorite is the Mormon Burger – a meatloaf, funeral potato combination.
SOT: “I was attracted by the Mormon Burger,” customer Tami Nickerson said.
VO: Nickerson, a Virgina native now Idaho local said her and her husband would frequent food trucks back east.
SOT: “You should try it. It’s great!” Nickerson said.
VO: Since the burgers are gourmet it takes a little longer to fully cook. Customers are welcome to order pick-up, or stop by their spot on the corner of Broadway and Utah Ave. In Idaho Falls, I’m Natalia Hepworth, EastIdahoNews.com
