2:29Now PlayingAMMON--VO: To some Mac’s snow shack in Ammon means looking forward to an icy treat.
SOT: “It tastes so good,” 7-year-old customer, Jayci Hansen says.
VO: To owners the shack stands for supporting their family, and freedom. After Owner Hugh McKinney returned home with wounds from military service, his family wanted to do something help. They came up with Mac’s snow shack, Mac being Hugh’s nickname while serving in the military.
SOT: “My husband was in Iraq. (He) came home injured and we needed to do something as a family to help pay for kid’s school, sports, school fee’s, life and bills, so we bought a small existing one that was here and have expanded,” Co-owner Jeanette says.
VO: Mac’s snow shack offers a military discount. They also sell a wide variety of flavors, and a custom flavors for all of the kids in the McKinney family.
SOT: “My son Jack has the, Jack Jack attack which is all the sours. Tropical Ricky, our son Rick created. It’s a very popular one. It’s a kiwi, lemon and mango shaved ice,” Jeanette says.
SOT: “I like getting a snow cone because it’s something you can’t get all year round, so I think the excitement is (that) you wait all winter, and then you get a nice icy treat during the hot summer,” customer Cassandra Key says.
VO: The most popular custom order is the Teton Twist, which is a combination of Mountain Berry and Huckleberry syrups. Shaved iced artists can also make it Hawaiian style by adding soft serve ice cream to the middle of your snow treat.
STAND UP: Today I have two signature snow cone flavors in front of me but I’m going to have a worker, Maddie, explain to me what I’m trying…. I really like the Teton Twist with the ice cream; it really is the perfect treat for summer.
VO: Co-Owner Jeanette McKinney says if customers don’t want to get too creative with their flavors they could go for something more traditional, or even soft serve ice cream.
SOT: “Our most requested flavor is Tigers Blood that is the most popular snow shack flavor, the next in that is probably going to be Silver Fox, or our super hero combinations," McKinney says.
VO: Jeanette and Hugh say they appreciate all of their customers and are looking forward to their tenth anniversary at Mac’s Snow Shack.
SOT: “We’re are really thankful for all our customers. Next year on our tenth anniversary we’re going to have a big customer appreciation day and do $0.25 shaved ice,” Jeanette says.
