11:45 am Fire update from Henry's Creek

IDAHO FALLS — Fire crews continue to fight the Henry’s Creek Fire, the bulk of which is in the Tex Creek and Meadow Creek area. Winds are slowing as air attack crews are taking advantage and working the fire line in various places.

A shift in the winds have caused the fire to continue to move east and south. With the unpredictable winds, fire Crews and law enforcement are continually monitoring structures, cabins and residents to make sure they have ample notification on any potential evacuations.

This morning there are no homes threatened or at risk.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies are working with property owners and ranchers from the Bone area to the Fall Creek area on getting property and cattle taken care of safely. Any cattle owners that have not coordinated with the Sheriff’s Office are asked to contact (208) 529-1200 and request a deputy working that area.

Officials are asking onlookers and unnecessary people to stay out of closed areas to fire crews, equipment, and ranchers can efficiently move in to needed areas.

The areas closed to the public at this time are:

Bone and Sunnyside

Bone and Lincoln Rd. Blacktail and Ririe Reservoir

Meadow Creek and Tex Creek

Long Valley Rd leading to fire areas

Fall Creek Rd. Leading to fire areas

Officials hope some of those areas will be open in the near future. Crews want to thank the public for their patience, local ranchers and farmers for their help in making fire lines with their equipment, and all of the fire agencies involved in fighting this fire.

At this time donations for residents and emergency personnel are not needed. We will request any needed supplies in the future.

Fire managers mapped the fire at 43,235 acres Tuesday evening and it is 20 percent contained. Air resources had some difficulty making retardant and water drops due to high winds and low visibility.

Dozens of firefighters continue to fight the fire, which has been burning since Sunday afternoon.

Smoke from the fire is spreading across east Idaho and the Department of Environmental Quality has air quality currently listed as ‘good’ but that could change.
