'Sunday bandit' arrested for indecent exposure outside doctor's office

1:42Now PlayingREXBURG — A man locals have nicknamed the “Sunday Bandit” was arrested on a new indecent exposure charge Wednesday night.
The nickname comes after Cody Polatis, 21, was caught several times breaking into Upper Valley homes during church services and masturbating before stealing clothes.
Rexburg Police reports show Polatis was parked outside Upper Valley Surgical Center on North 2nd East when employees realized he was using their Wifi internet connection.
Police were called and when they arrived, Polatis admitted to masturbating while looking at pornography while sitting in his vehicle. Officers also discovered women’s underwear in his vehicle and workers said he had used their internet in the past.
Polatis was arrested on one misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure and booked into the Madison County Jail.
He pleaded guilty Thursday morning and Judge Mark Rammell sentenced him to 180 days in jail.
Polatis had been charged with unlawful entry in May after breaking into a Madison County home. He was out of jail on probation when the indecent exposure happened Wednesday.
Because of the probation violation, Rammell sentenced Polatis to a separate 180 days in jail on the original unlawful entry charge.
When Polatis was originally sentenced in June, Rammell had ordered him to undergo a psychosexual evaluation. During a court hearing Thursday, Polatis admitted he had not obtained the evaluation and was in violation of probation.
Polatis was also on probation in Fremont County for a September 2015 unlawful entry charge.
He had broken into a home multiple times and stolen clothing from a teenagers bedroom during church services. The father of the girl set up a hidden camera in her bedroom and caught Polatis masturbating on his daughter’s bed before taking the clothes.
Polatis was originally charged with felony burglary, stalking and public display of offensive sexual material. Fremont County Prosecutor Karl Lewies entered a plea agreement with Polatis and the burglary charge was dropped in exchange for a misdemeanor unlawful entry charge.
Polatis will now serve a combined 360 day term in the Madison County Jail. He will get credit for a few days already served.
Madison County Prosecutor Rob Wood tells EastIdahoNews.com the county is pleased with the sentence.
