YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSUGAR CITY — A lockdown at Sugar-Salem schools has been lifted and a man has been detained, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Central Elementary, Kershaw Intermediate, Sugar-Salem Junior High, Sugar-Salem High School and Valley View Alternative were placed on lockdown around noon Thursday.
Madison County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dave Stoddard said a man contacted the sheriff’s office and said he was holding family members hostage and had explosives.
Investigators immediately responded to the home where the man said he was. Because it was located near Sugar-Salem High and Central Elementary, a lockdown was initiated.
Parents received emergency notifications and people living in the area were asked to stay inside.
Deputies discovered the man was not at the home or even in Sugar City, according to Stoddard. He has been located and detained. Officials have not released his name.
School business has returned to normal and deputies continue to investigate the situation.
More information will be posted when we receive it.
