as posted by the channelMAGNA, Utah — A 5.7 magnitude earthquake rocked the Salt Lake City area around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.
At least eight aftershocks have been reported as of 7:40 a.m. and emergency crews are evaluating the situation. It’s unknown if anyone has been injured but multiple buildings were damaged.
The epicenter of the earthquake was northeast of Magna, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Power outages were reported and people along the Wasatch Front felt the shaking.
“The entire house was shaking. It lasted around 5-8 seconds but felt a lot longer,” Chelsea Rowley, a Santaquin resident, tells EastIdahoNews.com.
This is the largest earthquake in Utah since 1992. Local news stations were on the air when it hit. In the video above, EastIdahoNews.com reporter Nate Eaton was watching the Today Show on KSL when the signal suddenly went to black and people began yelling.
