New drink shop in eastern Idaho serves popular Mexican beverage

IDAHO FALLS - Over the last six months, Maria Sanchez has been serving her Mexican fruit and milk-based drinks to customers throughout eastern Idaho out of a food truck. The business now has a permanent location in Idaho Falls.
Aguas Maria celebrated its grand opening at 3192 South 25th East inside the old Cuban Table restaurant.
EastIdahoNews.com spoke with Sanchez at her restaurant Wednesday morning and there was quite a crowd. Sanchez is thrilled with the response to the first day of business and she's hoping the trend will continue.
Of the 30 different drink flavors on her menu, Sanchez tells EastIdahoNews.com the most popular is the strawberry horchata. She's also added desserts to her menu at the new location.
Sanchez started making horchata for herself in the summer of 2015 when she was pregnant with her son.
"I was always craving something refreshing. I don't like pop and it's hard to drink water because it doesn't have sugar. So I would make fruit drinks," Sanchez says.
Her craving slowly turned into a hobby when she began serving her homemade drinks at parties. Over time, people suggested she start selling them. That led to the creation of a catering business, and eventually a food truck.
"It grew into something bigger and I'm so excited it's gotten to where it's at now," says Sanchez. "I'll still continue to do catering on the weekends for weddings, quinceañeras, baptisms, graduations, or any type of business event."
Though she says it's a delicious drink all year-round, it's particularly refreshing during hot summer days.
Idaho Falls is where she grew up and where she was busiest when she had her food truck, which is why she decided to open there. She felt the building's close proximity to "the center of everything" made it an ideal location for customers.
"I feel like it will be perfect for the summer," she says.
She's grateful for the support she's received, which allows her to "keep raising her little family."
Ultimately, she wants her business to continue to grow and she's hoping to franchise it one day and have multiple locations.
Aguas Maria is open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. closing time Friday and Saturday.
