Retired teacher who knits hats for children in need surprised for Feel Good Friday

EastIdahoNews.com and Ashley in Idaho Falls and Pocatello are partnering to honor people in our community for Feel Good Friday. Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition.
We received an email a few weeks ago about a woman named Marty. It said:
Marty retired from teaching school many years ago and was an amazing teacher. After retirement, Marty still wanted to give back to the Snake River schools. She and her husband decided to knit stocking caps for the students in need on the elementary level. Hundreds and hundreds (it is probably over a thousand) of stocking caps have been knitted and donated to the elementary schools over the years.
I have known Marty and her husband for many years, and it was my privilege to be involved because of a chance meeting at Rockford Elementary. Marty and her husband came into the school, where I was employed, when they delivered three garbage bags of stocking caps. I then had the opportunity to hand out these homemade, love-made caps to the children.
As I handed the caps to the children who did not have warm clothing to wear, they would look at me and ask me when they needed to return them back to the me. As I told them that this was a gift, many of them cried and gave was so appreciate that someone that cared enough about them to make their head warm while they were outside in the Idaho winters. It was at that time, many of these children knew that someone cared!
This amazing couple does not ask to be compensated and they do it out of love. Unfortunately, Marty’s husband has not been able to make the caps because of dementia. Marty still knits and donates to the local schools. As I visited with her this week, she stated that she needed more yarn. Marty has touched my life and so many students that I would love for her to have this opportunity as she continues to make a difference in the lives of others!
