On 17 January 2019, I participated on a panel discussion on a new show, called Madam Speaker on eNCA. The show was hosted by Iman Rampetti. With me on the panel was Tessa Dooms.

On the jury were Lovelyn Nwadeyi, Melissa Steyn, Busisiwe Nkosi and Gabriel Crouse.

My thoughts on the show. I think discussions like these are necessary, although the formal only allows for introductory comments. Some of the other panelists came across as overtly desperate to define racism and reality in such a way as to exclude the possibility of black people being racist. The notion that racism is only about power and that only white people have power and therefore only white people can be racist is a very weak one, for obvious reasons. The most striking parts for me were when Tessa Dooms claimed that a blacks only policy does not amount to preferential treatment for black people and that voting is an expression of whiteness...

At AfriForum, we remain of the opinion that one of the biggest problems when it comes to the issue of racism is that realities do not always comply with the oversimplified, one dimentional narrative about South Africa.
