The filmmaker is again facing backlash on social media but for a different reason. This time netizens are targeting Karan for promoting 'elite' culture in the matrimonial ad. Recently, a popular matrimony portal hitching people from the same alma mater, specially for IITians and IIMians, made the filmmaker their brand ambassador. Now, taking to his Instagram handle, Karan shared the advertisement of that portal featuring him. However, the ad did not go down well with a section of netizens, leaving some mean and harsh comments calling the concept 'offensive.' While one user commented, 'Wow. I guess they have been successful in making you a brand manager for elitism. This is such bullshit', another one wrote, 'This whole concept is so offensive...Are they trying to say that an IIT/IIM alumni will be mentally compatible only with another IIT/IIM alumni?! Ridiculous!' One wrote, 'Ridonculous Karan! Mental compatibility isn’t decided by the institute you graduate from and supporting platforms (IIT IIM Shaadi) like such isn’t helping really be progressive in today’s world.' 'Ridiculous...didn't expect this from you @karanjohar', said another. One wrote, 'Heights of stupidity!' Meanwhile, Karan is again donning a cap of a 'director' with his film 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani', starring Ranveer Singh. Earlier, in a conversation with a news portal, Karan opened up on getting back to the direction and said, 'I did go through phases of evolution as a filmmaker. But right during the pandemic, I felt I just needed to make a movie that made me feel like I was 25 again. And when I was 25, the only movie I could think of or make was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, because it was like an accumulation of all the movies that I had grown up watching.
