Court stays summons to Javed Akhtar till October 18 in a defamation case filed by Kangana Ranaut

As per the latest development in Javed Akhtar's defamation case against Kangana Ranaut, the court has granted relief to the ace lyricist. The sessions judge has stayed the summons issued by a magistrate to Akhtar on the actress's allegations of criminal intimidation. Now, he need not appear before the court until the next date of hearing, i.e. October 18th. Pronouncing its order, the court stated that if a stay is not granted there would be several complications and a multiplicity of proceedings. Earlier, Akhtar moved a petition before the sessions court, saying the summon to him was issued by the metropolitan magistrate’s court in suburban Andheri in a 'hasty and inappropriate manner,' which has resulted in 'grave miscarriage of justice.' 'The magistrate simply proceeded on the bald and unsubstantiated arguments made in the complaint without ascertaining the overall factual matrix and the judicial record,' the plea said. Back in 2020, Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana, claiming the actress had made defamatory statements against him in a television interview, which allegedly damaged his reputation.
