Rashmika Mandanna Shocking Deepfake Video: Delhi Police Interrogating Bihar Teen

The Delhi Police has reportedly questioned a 19-year-old youth from Bihar in connection with the viral deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna. According to reports, the police suspect that the youth had first uploaded the video on his social media platform and later shared it widely on other platforms. Reports further stated that he was given notice to join the probe as the video was first uploaded on social media from his account. A police official reportedly told a news portal, ‘Though he said that he had downloaded the video from an Instagram account, we are interrogating him.’ The officer further added that the youth was asked to appear before the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police's Special Cell and bring his mobile phone, which he apparently used to upload the video. Soon after registering an FIR, the IFSO Unit also wrote to Meta to get the URL and other details to identify the accused. Notably, an FIR was recently registered under sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 66C and 66E of the Information Technology Act at the IFSO Unit. To give some background of the case, Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video recently went viral on the internet and started a much-needed discussion on Artificial Intelligence and its potential consequences in the future. The morphed viral video showed Rashmika entering an elevator dressed in a black body-hugging yoga suit and smiling for the camera.
