However, he strongly opposed Trump’s tariff plan, calling it “pretty damaging to the business.” Instead, Clooney suggested a federal rebate system to encourage more filmmaking in the U.S., offering a financial incentive rather than punishment. Trump first threatened 100% movie tariffs back in May and reignited the debate on Truth Social this week, arguing that California is being “hit hard” by overseas productions and that the system is “unfair” to U.S. filmmakers.
