In another shocking blow to the world’s cultural heritage, Syria’s National Museum in Damascus, the country’s largest and most historic, has fallen victim to a major art heist. Authorities confirm that thieves made off with ancient gold ingots, Roman-era statues, and other priceless artifacts in what is being described as one of the most significant museum thefts in recent Middle Eastern history. Officials told the Associated Press that six marble statues dating back to the Roman period were among the stolen items. The theft reportedly occurred late Sunday night, with museum staff discovering the break-in early Monday morning. One of the doors to the Classical Department was found broken, and several display pedestals were left empty. Following the discovery, the National Museum of Damascus was temporarily closed as authorities launched a full investigation. WATCH-
