"In the book of Isaiah it is written that the Lord called out, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' And Isaiah the prophet answered, 'Here am I, Lord. Send me'"

Memorial Day Observance
President Obama participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and gave a Memorial Day address in Memorial Amphitheater.
Obama:
What bonds this chain together across the generations, this chain of honor and sacrifice, is not only a common cause -- our country's cause -- but also a spirit captured in a Book of Isaiah, a familiar verse, mailed to me by the Gold Star parents of 2nd Lieutenant Mike McGahan. 'When I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here I am. Send me!'
President Biden, August 26, 2021, remarks after Kabul Afghanistan bombing:
"Those who have served through the ages have drawn inspiration from the Book of Isaiah. 'When the Lord says, who shall I send? Who shall go for us?' The American military has been answering for a long time: Here I am Lord, send me. Here I am, send me.' Each one of these women and men of our armed forces are the heirs of that tradition of sacrifice of volunteering to go in harm's way to risk everything, not for glory, not for profit but defend what we love and the people we love."

End of Combat Operations in Iraq
President Bush addressed the nation from the flight deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). He declared the end of major military operations in Iraq, praised military personnel for their service, and spoke about global efforts to combat terrorism.
"All of you -- all in this generation of our military, have taken up the highest calling of history. You are defending your country and protecting the innocent from harm. And wherever you go, you carry a message of hope, a message that is ancient and ever new. In the words of the Prophet Isaiah, "To the captives, come out; and to those in darkness, be free." Thank you for serving our country and our cause. May God bless you all, and may God continue to bless America. "
