5:29Now PlayingMatt Gaetz has been doing everything possible to distract the public from the fact that his life is falling apart behind the scenes. While he gleefully tours the country ranting about his fellow Republicans, investigators are closing in on him and getting his former friends to turn against him. Farron Cousins explains what's happening and why Gaetz is still trying to put on a brave face.

On Friday, Republican representative, Matt Gaetz tweeted out that he was headed to Mesa, Arizona for one of his idiotic rallies with Marjorie Taylor green. He was super excited, expecting a great crowd. And the guy continues to pretend like his life is not a raging dumpster fire
Back home, because it is. And
Honestly, I kind of love what's happening right now. Over the past week, we have had countless breaking stories about the trouble that Matt Gaetz is in and each story that comes out, of course, implicate, implicates him even further. Obviously last Monday, Greenburg switched his plea from not guilty to guilty. They dropped 27 charges against him as part of this plea deal. So, yeah, he's flipped on Matt Gaetz. Couple days after that, we get the story about a, uh, big Joe Ellicott down in Florida, who was an associate of Greenberg. Their text messages were revealed where they admitted. They knew one of the women in question was in fact, under age, everybody needed to lawyer up. We also know that there was a subpoena
From back in December
To Ellicott, specifically seeking any communications that he had had with either Greenberg or Matt gates, which confirms that Matt Gaetz is in fact, a target of this investigation. Not just somebody mentioned, not just somebody named here and their gates is a target. Gates is being investigated and he's pretending like nothing's happening. He went on, uh, own the own network
Last Thursday night, talking about
Nonsense. He's tweeting out all kinds of things about we've got to preserve the integrity of the Arizona, uh, ballot audit. I'm heading to Arizona to attack my fellow Republicans. Life is great. I am smug, nothing bad ever happens to me. So just please ignore all of these horrible, horrible stories. Please ignore all of the Venmo receipts that are now public, all the text messages that are now public. Yeah. I'm I'm totally okay. And at this point, I honestly can't determine whether or not Matt gates is doing this as a bit of a PR strategy, or if, because he legitimately thinks he's okay. So let's take a look at both of those real quick. First and foremost, maybe gates actually does think he's not going to get in trouble for this. That wouldn't be surprising considering the fact that gates has gotten away with just about everything for his entire life. I, the DUIs, of course, the one, always everybody always goes back to because that's the best answer,
Right? The
Guy should, they have faced severe stiff penalties for the DUIs, but daddy in the state of Florida had a lot of power, got them out trouble gates. His own friends from high school have admitted that the guy never grew up. He's still the same guy. He was back when he was 18 years old. He hasn't shifted out of that mentality because he's never had to, he has been protected by powerful people for his entire life. So maybe, yeah, maybe he thinks everything is hunky Dory and he doesn't need to worry about anything. Or, and I do think this one's the more likely he's trying to run this slick PR campaign going out there telling people that look, it's a witch hunt against me. Where, where have we heard that before? Oh, they're trying to take me down because really they're trying to get to you. He's already said that. And Trump has said the same things. He's really literally trying the Trump defense pretend it's not happening. Say that you're the victim just like he did in the early days. Remember really? Like what happened with the blackmail scheme? Right? That was the first thing he said, like, no, my family is being blackmailed. My father is wearing a wire and yeah, that, uh, that fizzled out real quick, that fizzled out really quick. Once we got all the receipts, I mean, literally got the receipts meats.
So that's where right now
Gates continues to just whistle past the graveyard, pretending at least publicly that nothing bad is ever going to happen to him.
