Republican Congressman Tells His Party To "Go To Hell" For Salivating Over Civil War

Freshman Republican Congressman Peter Meijer from Michigan had some harsh words for his own Party on Memorial Day, and he tweeted that they can "go straight to hell" for salivating over a new civil war in our country. Though they are still few and far between, we are beginning to see more Republicans speaking out about the insanity that has taken over their Party. Farron Cousins discusses this.

Earlier this week on Memorial day, a Republican representative from the state of Michigan, Peter Meijer tweeted out an attack on his fellow Republicans. Here is what he had to say in his Twitter, uh, Twitter account, sorry. In the tweets, I struggle with Memorial day stupid hot takes, plus brow beatings from the holier than now his memories and knowledge that for too many, it's a reminder of a father, mother, husband, son, daughter gone our shared obligation to make this nation worthy of their sacrifice. And then there are those who take the sacrifice for granted waxing patriotic, while salivating for civil war claiming they need to destroy the Republic in order to save it in the ultimate betrayal of oaths sworn those treacherous snakes can go straight to hell.

And again, there is no question that this is directed at fellow members of his Republican party, who are in fact salivating over the thought of civil war. I mean, we just had to retire general Michael Flynn, this past weekend suggest that the United States needed the military to stage a coup to re-instate Donald Trump. As president of the United States, we had the insurrection that took place on January 6th. It was a weak one. It was a failed one, but an insurrection nonetheless, to overturn the results of a democratic election here in the United States. And we have the Republicans like Matt gates, who say that you may have to use your second amendment rights to overthrow the gun government. He said that last week are Republicans openly as Meijer correctly pointed out salivating for another civil war.

There's not a whole, a lot of Republicans right now, willing to speak out about the insanity in their party. Those that have have been punished by that same party. And that does not excuse any of the past sins of these individuals. Now Meijer here 33 years old. He is a freshman. He has not had time to do some truly horrible things yet in the house of representatives. Of course he did, you know, just like every other Republican voted against the stimulus package. So the guy's no angel, you know, he doesn't exactly care about the plight of suffering people here in the United States, but he does care about the plight of his party suffering. So, you know, he'll speak out about that, which I guess is a positive, I guess it's a good thing. I guess it's something we have to celebrate, but think about this, how low the bar is for the Republican party right now, in order to get even the slightest amount of praise.

And I'll admit I'm guilty of it. I'm guilty of praising these individuals. I'm praising this guy for his tweet, but that's how low the threshold is. Like as long as you're willing to say that, yes, the Republican party has gone totally cuckoo for cocoa puffs. Okay, good. You get praise now, you get for not being insane. That's how low the bar is for the Republican party. And yet there's only a handful of people in the party on the elected level who are willing to do that. I've repeatedly said the Republican party can not be saved and it should not be saved. And I still stand by that. But I do think what we're kind of starting to see now. And I think Meijer had just had enough of it, uh, on Memorial day, when you do see all the pho patriotism from these individuals, Meijer a guy who did serve.

He served in the military, he was over there in the middle east. So this guy understands, he's seen the horse up close firsthand. And I think that's what really set them off because you have all of these other individuals waxing patriotic about it, pretending to be these hardcore flag wavers. While at the same time, attacking the very institutions that make this country, what it is, it's enough to send anybody over the edge. And I do applaud Meyer for this statement. This one time. Good on you. We'd like to see more from you. If you could maybe become a decent human being and divorce yourself from the Republican party and stop voting against good things for the American public, maybe then you get a little bit more praise, but hopefully as we see every now and then one coming out here, one coming out, they're Republicans willing to say, you know what?
