Trump May Announce Presidential Run Soon To Thwart Investigators

Speculation is beginning to grow that Donald Trump could announce a presidential bid very soon in order to put the brakes on the mounting investigations against him. And with a recent windfall in campaign donations, that time could easily come a lot quicker. But running for President isn't going to save him from investigators and lawsuits, and Farron Cousins explains why.

So it's no secret that the last two weeks have been very, very, very, very bad for Donald Trump. Of course, we had him, uh, you know, the Mar uh, Mar Lago FBI search and seizure. Then the literal next day, a court said the IRS has to hand his tax documents over to the house ways and means committee. Then the day after that, he had to plead the fifth amendment 440 times in front of New York attorney general Latitia James, two days after that, it was revealed that some of the documents that he was storing were top secret and likely pertained to nuclear secrets. The following week, this past week. sorry. It's so funny. A Weisselberg of course his former CFO pleaded guilty to 15 counts and agreed to testify against him in court. So Donald Trump is not having a good time. Oh. And of course, Donald Trump's friends over in Georgia had to go testify in front of the special grand jury.

Oh. And by the way, all of his friends who were involved in, uh, copying the voter data in Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada also, um, are now under criminal investigation. So yeah, bad couple of weeks, right? Because of that, speculation is increasing that Donald Trump might just go ahead and announce, Hey, I'm running for president again, because he thinks this could, I guess what put a halt on these investigations. Maybe it could stop everything in its tracks before it gets too hot on him. Now here's the fun part, right? None of that would actually happen. And I love that a couple weeks ago, the DOJ and this was before the FBI went to Margo, came out and said, listen, we don't care if somebody's running for president. If they're under investigation, we're gonna continue the investigation. We're not gonna be bullied by somebody who says, well, then I'm gonna run for office and shut you down.

We're gonna do what we're gonna do. We're gonna follow the truth where it may lead. And we're gonna make sure we get everything right. So Trump's plan to of course, announce a presidential bid. Probably isn't gonna stop anything. We, we pretty much know it's not gonna stop Latitia James up in New York. It's not gonna stop the DOJ. It's not gonna stop Fannie Willis over in Georgia. So if Trump wants to run for office, go for it, bro. Nobody is stopping you. Except of course your own party. That definitely doesn't want you to announce a presidential bid before the midterms. But for Donald Trump, he sees that the clock is ticking. And of course, following the FBI search of Mar Lago, he's been fundraising off that, sending out emails and text messages multiple times a day, he's raised a ton of money. So his campaign war chest has gotten bigger just as his legal problems has. So he's looking at this and he's saying, look, I got all the money right now. I got this bearing down on me. Maybe it's time. Maybe I go ahead and do it

To hell with the midterms to hell, with Republicans telling me no, I've gotta do something that just might get these investigators off my back. Right? I don't think it's gonna happen. Uh, I'm talking about the, in investigators being like, oh shucks, we can't investigate anymore. They're gonna keep investigating him. But of course he will continue to use that to raise money for his campaign. Which of course is the whole point of it. He knows deep down. He's not gonna stop him. But every time they come out with a new damning piece of information, he's gonna use it for the campaign and see, oh, look, look how bad they're coming after me all, because I'm gonna run for office or I am running for office. And, and they don't want me in office cuz I'm draining the swamp. I'm gonna shut 'em all down. And they're scared. So they're putting all this stuff out about me and his base is gonna be like, yeah, you're right. I'm gonna send you 20 more dollars today. It's all part of the long game. He knows he can't shut down the investigators, but he also knows that his base is dumb enough to give him a lot of money for what's going on.
