Recently, the January 6th Committee made a court filing that revealed the contents of a trove of emails, some of which showed Donald Trump's own campaign lawyers mocking him for not actually having any money. The emails are relevant to the filing because the Committee was trying to show that the emails that John Eastman is fighting to hide are not actually protected by attorney-client privilege. Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

A recent filing from the January 6th committee in court. In their attempt, their ongoing attempt to get more of Trump lawyer John Eastman's emails has revealed certain emails that Eastman of course had been trying to claim. No, they're covered by attorney client privilege. But the January 6th committee revealed these so-called attorney client privilege emails in their filing. And what it shows us is a bunch of Trump lawyers making fun of the fact that Donald Trump doesn't actually have any money that he's broke. Now Donald Trump has a very high net worth, right? That that is indisputable. The problem is Donald Trump, and this has been discussed with, you know, truth, social with the ongoing lawsuits against him, he's cash poor, right? He's got a lot of assets, but not a lot of the green. In order to have the money, he would have to get rid of the assets, sell them, and then he'd have cash.

So that's what cash poor, but asset rich means. And in these emails from two Trump lawyers, Kenneth Chesbro and Mar Bruce, Marks the first email from Mr. Chesbro. He says, I met Trump International nyc so I'm feeling extra inspired to work on the president's cases. Mark's replied that it was a shame that Mr. Chesbro was not in Washington at Mr. Trump's hotel, so he could quote, contribute to violation of the Emo's clause. In response, Chesboro wrote that he was staying at Mr. Trump's Washington DC hotel from January 3rd to January 8th and said he was quote, doing his part to Curry favor with Mr. Trump by quote, lining his empty pockets.

These are guys that worked for Donald Trump. These are guys that know what's going on in the inner workings of Donald Trump's entire world. And they're mocking the fact that he doesn't have any money. And if anybody on this planet would know, they would, and here they are in these emails laughing it up, joking about the fact that the guy that hired them, the guy you're hoping pays you, doesn't have any money. Why would you, why would you bother taking on a client like that that you know has the assets to pay you? But given his track record with previous lawyers might not. In fact the very lawyer at the center of this email scandal, not, which isn't a scandal, it's his, his trying to stop the emails from being released. John Eastman at one point had to beg Rudy Giuliani, another one of Trump's lawyers who didn't get paid Eastman begged Giuliani to go beg Trump to pay Eastman cuz Eastman hadn't been paid. So I don't know what y'all are yucking it up about like who he has no money. Yeah, that probably means you're not gonna get paid. That's kind of the hallmark of the whole Trump organization is trying not to pay their bills. Right? We've seen it with lawsuits from contractors, we've seen it with the complaints from his own legal teams. Very hard to get paid. So I

Wouldn't be laughing about that unless you do enjoy doing the pro bono work for a billionaire client. But again, the real thing aside from the mocking Trump, is the fact that these are emails that Eastman had tried to claim were attorney client privilege. That that's not attorney client privilege. They're not talking about anything related to something Donald Trump told them, uh, in confidence as his lawyers. And that's what the January 6th committee was trying to show the court. And if they've got more emails like this where it's very obvious that Eastman's lying about the attorney client privilege, I'd say that Eastman is in a lot of trouble and he is probably gonna have to turn over a lot of documents that he hoped much like these would never make it out to the public.
