Republicans Humiliate Themselves Defending Donald Trump's Bathroom Documents

Republicans are tripping over themselves and being completely humiliated in the process in order to defend Donald Trump for having a horde of classified documents stashed next to his toilet. Even Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has defended the action saying that bathroom doors "have locks." That may be the case, but there's no evidence to suggest that the door was locked. Republicans don't have to defend Trump, and that's what makes this so funny, as Farron Cousins explains.

One of the things that honest to God you gotta admire about Donald Trump, at least a little bit, is the fact that he has gotten Republicans in Congress to form sentences that you never thought you'd hear out of a sitting politician. And as they continue to defend him following his arraignment yesterday, we're starting to hear them say even dumber things than we could have ever imagined. The latest talking point, and this actually started before the arraignment, but it continues today, this latest talking point is involving one of the more viral pictures that came out of the indictment, which of course is the bathroom filled with documents, right at Mar-a-Lago. Donald Trump just had the boxes of documents stuffed away next to the toilet that for some reason has a chandelier above it. But because documents were found in the toilet, well, not in the toilet, but in the restroom, Republicans including Republican House speaker Kevin McCarthy, have now had to come out and defend the bathroom documents saying some of the dumbest things we have ever heard. Kevin McCarthy went on, uh, I believe it was CNN talking with Dana Bash. And Dana Bash asked him quote, uh, was that a good look for the former president to have boxes in a bathroom? Kevin McCarthy, God bless him, didn't miss a beat. He knew he was gonna get asked about the bathroom documents. And Kevin McCarthy said, quote, I don't know, is it a good picture to have boxes in a garage that opens up all the time, A bathroom door locks.

There you go. We now have the Speaker of the House of Representatives defending the bathroom documents because believe it or not, folks, bathroom doors lock. Yeah. What up with that? Now, Kevin, I don't know if you're being intentionally stupid or if you were genuinely stupid, but you, you, you know, garage doors locked too, right? I mean, otherwise we would see property crime skyrocketing if, if people couldn't lock their garages, right? I mean, you, you know that, I mean that that's a thing that you have to know. I don't even have a garage and I know that, but of course Kevin McCarthy is trying to deflect it and be like burden head documents too. Yeah. And his lawyers were the ones who turned them back over because, oh God, we shouldn't have these. Here you go. And Trump would be in the same boat had he just done that. But Trump didn't do that. So now we have the Speaker of the House of Representatives degrading himself by having to go on national television and defend bathrooms because you know, those doors lock, but he's not the only one. You also had Republican representative, Byron Donalds, who actually got a little bit testy when asked about the bathroom documents

This also on CNN with host Phil Mattingly and Byron Donalds republican representative from Florida said, quote, you guys are throwing up the pictures about they were in a bathroom or on a stage. As somebody who has been to Mar-a-Lago, you can't walk through mar-a-Lago of your own accord because secret services all over the place. So if the documents are in a place, they're in a room, depending on the time of year, you can't even get into said room. There are 33 bathrooms at Mar-a-Lago, so don't act like it's in some random bathroom that guests can go into. That's not true.

Um, first of all, you did say like depending on the time of year, you can't even get in there. Okay? So, so you are admitting that there are times of year when the bathroom with the documents in it is available. I mean, that, that was your statement, not mine. You're like, depending on the time of year, you can't even get in to see the bathroom documents and when there's a party, my god, the line for the bathroom is forever. Guys, I'm gonna make this real clear for you. Donald's McCarthy and any other idiot Republican trying to defend the bathroom documents, it's not that they were in the bathroom. Donald Trump has not been charged with putting documents in a bathroom that that's not one of the charges. I know it's 37, that's a big high number for y'all to count to, but putting documents in a bathroom is not a thing that he was indicted for.
