Swing District Republicans Beg Congress To Stop Being Stupid

Next year's elections are going to be brutal for Republicans in Congress, and things could end up being even worse for Republicans in swing districts. Those Republicans - currently holding seats in districts that Biden won in 2020 - are now begging their far right colleagues to just be normal and stop saying stupid things for as long as possible. But that's actually a tall order for this Republican congress, as Farron Cousins explains.

Following early November's, significant election losses for Republicans, even in deep red states, you now have a group of about 18 Republicans in the House of Representatives, all of whom by the way, represent districts that President Biden won in 2020. So they're essentially Republicans in swing districts or Republicans in districts that lean blue who are now begging their colleagues, you know, the extreme fringe of the party to shut the hell up or else we're all going to lose our jobs next year. And the big issue, of course, that these 18 Republicans are, are really talking about wishing their party would shut up about it, is the issue of abortion. Because everywhere abortion is on the ballot, even in deep red states like Kansas, Republicans lose. It is a losing talking point. And these Republicans in the swing districts, they know that. They understand it, they get it, and they're telling their party for the love of God, can y'all just not talk about this?

Like maybe talk about, I don't know anything else on the planet, but if you make this an issue in 2024, we are going to lose. And the Democrats are taking everything back over. It's been proven. It's been proven in 2022. It was proven in 2023, and it will hold true in 2024 as well. But I think these Republicans also have other concerns. It's not just the abortion issue, that that is the big one. That's the one that'll cost 'em the most. But at the same time, these Republicans also want their colleagues in the house too. For the love of God, act normal. Can y'all please stop fighting each other in the halls? Can Marjorie Taylor Greene stop having her psychotic meltdowns and screaming profanities at fellow Republicans? That would be super awesome too, if y'all could just act like normal adult human beings for five seconds, but they can't.

This is who they are. Like this is what the Republican party has devolved into. You can beg and plead all you want with these people to please just be normal, but it ain't gonna happen. Two great examples of that earlier this year. I'm sure everybody remembers when Marjorie Taylor Greene was going through her big rebrand. You know, she went on Fox News and was like, yeah, I got in the Q rabbit hole, but that's not me anymore. She did that big thing for 60 minutes where they treated her like a normal human being. And then immediately after that, she went right back into the conspiracy theories, cussing people out on the house floor and being just generally horrible. Lauren Bobert, same thing, right? She got in trouble for the Beetlejuice thing, she tried to lay low for a little bit, then she immediately comes back out saying the dumbest things we've ever heard come out of a member of Congress's mouth. Normal, even when they're in hot water for being grotesque, it only lasts a couple weeks before they're right back to being their horrible old selves. You know, you also have Matt Gaetz out there, Jim Jordan, the new speaker of the house with his insane religious beliefs that he wants to impose on all of us. Those are not good things for Republicans heading into 2024. But it's these swing district Republicans. They're the ones who are the most scared, right? Marjorie Taylor Greene's not gonna lose her seat. Matt Gaetz is not gonna lose his seat. I mean, Lauren Bobert probably gonna lose her seat, so you know, unless of course she just loses in the primary, then another Republican takes her place. Most of these Republicans are safe, and that's why they're able to act so extreme. That's why they do the crazy things, because they think only about themselves. Like, what do I care? It doesn't hurt me, but it hurts everybody else. But good luck trying to get Republicans to care about how their actions affect other people. After all, if Republicans cared about that, these swing district Republicans would have nothing to worry about because that big abortion issue wouldn't be an issue at all because Republicans wouldn't have touched it. But they're very self-centered individuals. They're not gonna shut up and it will cost them big time next year.
