The COVID-19 crisis has put unprecedented strain on Americans, with measurable effects on mental health, including a 1000 percent increase in texts to the federal disaster distress hotline, an increase in alcohol sales, and nearly half of survey respondents agreeing that their mental health has been affected by the pandemic.
The impact of the crisis can be even more difficult on entrepreneurs, whose ventures operate on tighter margins, have fewer backup reserves, and have largely reported having to lay off staff. That is why it is more crucial than ever for entrepreneurs to take care of their own mental health in order to steward their work and the people who rely on them through the rest of this uniquely challenging year and beyond.
