10:41Now PlayingOld satellites don’t die. They fade away. Well, more technically, they’re gently nudged with their last bit of remaining fuel into the Earth’s atmosphere so that they can be incinerated harmlessly by the resulting friction.
Either way, ending the days when still useful satellites are junked because they’ve run out of gas is the primary goal for Orbit Fab, which aims to build a network of orbital refueling depots that can keep satellites around longer. It already has the backing of the Department of Defense and has developed an open standard for refueling ports being used by satellite manufacturers.
