Forbes estimates he has a net worth of $500 million. Raised in the Bronx, Maitland is the son of a surgeon who once operated on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after he was stabbed at a 1958 book signing. in 1987, years after Maitland started working at Merrill Lynch, he became head of convertible bonds at the company. Eight years later, he started Advent Capital, which has $8.5 billion in assets under management.
