Hired by the white establishment of Ferguson, Missouri in the wake of the shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer, city leaders say they like James' checkered past--including a convicition for reckless homicide in 2004.
"I think that it helps add perspective," said Mayor James Knowles III.
For his part, James, 32, said his value comes in the fact that he can speak tow languages: both black and white.
