as posted by the channel50 years ago - on March 7th, 1965 - a tiny town in Alabama would make headlines across the world.
Hundreds of black Americans - demanding civil rights - would leave Selma to walk 54 miles to the state capital of Montgomery. But they wouldn't make it. At the Edmund Pettis Bridge, just blocks from the start - all hell broke loose. Police attacked with billy clubs, whips, and pepper spray. But it's what happened two years early - in Birmingham - that would touch off the revolution.
