'You gonna die': Detroit Police shoot suspect, officer ran over

Detroit police released several angles of video footage showing what led to an officer-involved shooting last month that resulted in an officer being dragged by a car.

Officers with the Special Operations Unit were on patrol on St. Mary's, not far from Seven Mile, around 11:40 p.m. Dec. 11. 2024, when they spotted a car blocking a sidewalk, according to Detroit Police Capt. Shaun Dunning.

Police cruiser dashcam video shows the officers pulling into the driveway to block the car, which was backed into the driveway. Dunning said the officers had their emergency lights activated and shined the cruiser's spotlight at the car before getting out and approaching the vehicle with guns drawn.

In body cam footage, three officers can be heard yelling at the pair in the car. Officers are heard telling them to put their hands up.

Dunning said that at one point, the driver backed up and hit another vehicle parked in the driveway before pulling forward and hitting an officer in front of the car.

The 18-year-old driver was shot in the chest and later called 911 for help. He was then taken into custody and treated for the gunshot.
