as posted by the channelA gunman was killed in a shootout with the Secret Service outside the White House on Saturday, after officials said he took out a gun and started firing at officers.
The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the area of 17th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue around 6 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, a person walked up to a security checkpoint, pulled a handgun out of his bag, and started firing at officers. Officers shot back, hitting the suspect. A male bystander was also hit and suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Paramedics took the gunman to the hospital and later died, the Secret Service confirmed. Police have identified the suspect as Nasire Best, 21, of Maryland.
