as posted by the channelThe Salvation Army at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in South Dallas spent the day passing out donated fans to those in need.
It was just the basics, but it was just enough with plenty of air conditioning, cold bottled water and TV. For the folks who need it most, it was heaven sent.
Jennifer Hysell is caring for her autistic godson. She says she and her family got behind on rent. Until they can afford to pay it, the air won't get fixed.
“It’s actually cooler outside than it is in the house,” she said. “And the house is so hot.”
Like many others, Hysell is benefiting from the Salvation Army fan giveaway and the generous donors who make it possible.
“Hopefully this fan, put it in the room and let him sit in front of it because he can't tell me, ‘I'm hot.’ He just gets upset,” she said.
Gloria Hancock is picking up a fan after the A/C unit in her bedroom went out.
“I can't sleep in there. I have to sleep in the living room on the couch,” she said.
The Salvation Army says they started the day with about a 100 fans to give away and are expecting about 100 more distributed through their food pantry program.
