2:22Now PlayingPolice continued their search on Monday at White Rock Lake for a missing Grand Prairie woman after her husband's body was discovered there over the weekend.
Dallas Fire-Rescue recovered the body of Alfonso Hernandez on Sunday after someone reported seeing a body by the White Rock Spillway. He and Weltzin Garcia disappeared on February 5.
Police say Hernandez assaulted Garcia about a week before they disappeared and there was an arrest warrant out for him. His body was found with no obvious signs of trauma.
The Dallas police dive team searched under bridges along the west side of White Rock Lake. The area is near where Hernandez’s Honda was found abandoned just hours after he and his wife were reported missing two weeks ago.
Divers with metal detectors also scanned the lake bottoms for a possible weapon and police divers searched for evidence along the cold, murky and muddy shoreline.
Texas Parks and Wildlife joined Dallas PD in the effort. In all, three boats equipped with side-scanning sonar, mapped the lake bottom to mark possible targets for divers to investigate.
Dallas Police Air One scanned the lake from above. But by Monday afternoon, the search for the missing mother of two was called off.
Police say it was a passerby who spotted Hernandez’s body Sunday morning near the spillway on the south end of the lake. His cause of death is pending the results of a toxicology report.
The couple's two children are now staying with family members.
