RICHARDSON, TX—On Tuesday, September 30, the Dallas Muslim American Society, the Muslim Legal Fund of America, and Justice4Marwan will hold a press conference at Richardson City Hall at 10 AM to demand the immediate release of Marwan Marouf. Marwan's unjust detention is causing concerns due to his current health condition.

Today marks one week since Marwan Marouf, a father, community leader, and dear friend, was unjustly detained by ICE agents after dropping his son off at school. Marwan, to many people, is a clear example of what true leadership, compassion, and dedication to community look like. His tireless work to support youth programs, organize neighborhood initiatives, and advocate for refugee work has made a lasting impact on countless lives. The urgent calls for his release reflect these deep ties to the community, highlighting the impact that just one week of his absence has already created in humanitarian and community service efforts in the Dallas area.

Dr. Mohammed Marouf, the oldest son of Marwan, states that his father has “Brugada Syndrome, a serious heart rhythm disorder that has already caused him a heart attack in the mid-2000s and required a permanent pacemaker. His sudden detention puts his health at significant risk.” As Marwan continues to be detained and held in ICE facilities, the community and family are concerned that the stress and uncertainty of detention could trigger another cardiac event. In an interview last Tuesday, Malik said, “We’re worried every day, not knowing what will happen to him or to us. It feels unfair and painful, and we’re just trying to hold onto each other while facing this heavy uncertainty. ”

We stand together as a community to demand that Marwan and all those who have been terrorized by ICE be released immediately and that ICE end its campaign of targeted violence, illegitimate arrests, and cowardly attempts to break down our communities.

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth plan to address hundreds of U.S. military officials in person Tuesday after the Pentagon suddenly asked top commanders from around the world to convene at a base in Virginia without publicly revealing the reason.

The gathering at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, near Washington, has fueled intense speculation about the purpose and value of summoning such a large number of generals and admirals to one place, with many stationed in more than a dozen countries that include conflict zones in the Middle East and elsewhere.

“The notion that the secretary is going to talk to the generals and give them his vision for running the department — and maybe also for strategy and organization — that’s perfectly reasonable,” said Mark Cancian, a senior adviser with the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a retired Marine colonel.

“What’s mystifying is why it’s on such short notice, why it’s in person and what else might be involved,” he said.

The uncertainty comes as the country faces a potential government shutdown this week and as Hegseth, who has hammered home a focus on lethality and what he calls the “warrior ethos,” has taken several unusual and unexplained actions, including ordering cuts to the number of general officers and firings of other top military leaders.
