as posted by the channelA sand tiger shark bit a surfer at the beach at Smith Point County Park on Wednesday morning. The surfer suffered a four-inch gash on his leg from an apparent tiger shark, County Executive Steve Bellone said. After the attack, lifeguards closed the beach to swimmers for a few hours but later let people back in the water. The crews are patrolling the water using paddle boards, personal watercraft, and aerial drones, officials said.
