as posted by the channelMets owner Steve Cohen's plan to bring a casino and entertainment complex, Metropolitan Park, to the Citi Field parking lot in Queens is moving forward once again after reaching an agreement with the city. However, the project is still facing a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA).
The USTA, which owns the National Tennis Center across the street and hosts the U.S. Open, had sued the city, alleging a violation of its lease's "superiority rights" over the parking area during the tournament. The new deal reportedly addresses these concerns by respecting the USTA's rights for parking and prohibiting other competing events during the 23 days of the U.S. Open, with the exception of Mets games.
This development keeps Metropolitan Park as one of three main proposals still in the running for up to three downstate casino licenses expected to be issued by New York State by the end of the year. Other contenders include Bally's (at President Trump's former golf course in the Bronx) and Resorts World (expanding its existing casino in Queens).
