0:20Now PlayingA curious dog and a poorly stored lithium-ion battery sparked an accidental fire at the home of a North Carolina fire chief.
The Chapel Hill Fire Department released video Monday of the incident involving Fire Chief David Sasser’s dog, Colton. The department stated in a Facebook post that Colton "counter-surfed" to retrieve the fully charged battery, ultimately chewing through its protective casing and causing it to ignite.
Fortunately, the fire only ruined a rug, and Colton suffered no injuries beyond minor smoke exposure. The department issued a reminder to the public about the importance of safely storing lithium-ion batteries.
