LIVE | Luigi Mangione in court for hearing: Stakeout camera day 2

Luigi Mangione, the man charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last December, will be back in New York state court around 8:45 a.m. CT for suppression hearings in his state murder case. Mangione's attorneys are asking the court to dismiss evidence and statements given by Luigi to the Altoona, PA, police who made the initial arrest. The defense says Mangione was not read his Miranda rights before speaking to law enforcement, and the items in Mangione’s backpack were searched and seized without a warrant, violating his 4th & 5th Amendment rights. The DA's office says the search was justified upon his lawful arrest to “ensure that the backpack did not contain dangerous items before transporting it.” In September, the judge overseeing the case threw out the first-degree murder and murder as an act of terrorism charges. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to both state and separate federal charges in connection with the murder of Thompson last December. Mangione is currently being held in federal custody in Brooklyn, NY. The suppression hearings could last several days.
