The Australian Transport Safety Bureau released footage Thursday showing the terrifying moment a skydiver's reserve parachute snagged on a plane's wing flap during a formation jump over Queensland.

As the jumper exited the aircraft at 15,000 feet, the entanglement caused the chute to wrap around the plane's tail, significantly damaging the horizontal stabilizer. In a remarkable escape, the suspended man used a knife to cut himself free before deploying his main parachute to land with only minor injuries.

The bureau's final report on the incident, which occurred during the "Big Ways at the Beach" event, noted the aircraft was improperly loaded but determined this did not cause the accident.
