Instagram user Mud Lord posted this video of police chasing after the man who was riding a bike along S Baldwin St as sirens wailed. The man came off his bike at the intersection of Williamson St, with three officers proceeding to restrain him to the ground as a fourth arrived on the scene.
As motorists stopped their cars and watched the situation unfold, the source walked toward the incident, capturing the moment an officer fired three shots. Bystanders are then heard reacting in horror to the incident.
In a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Madison Police Chief John Patterson said officers were called to the city’s east side over a report of a person “allegedly checking parked vehicles.” The man was located by officers but he fled on a bicycle, Patterson said, before officers located him at the S Baldwin-Williamson intersection.
