0:48Now PlayingTen years of a jiu jitsu “obsession” came in extremely handy for a nurse in Queensland after an intoxicated patient became aggressive in the emergency department.
Footage posted online by Daniel Nelson shows the moment the patient turned and attacked him.
Nelson said the incident took place late at night in October 2024, after the man was asked to leave the hospital for being abusive to staff.
Surveillance footage shows Nelson restraining the man in a headlock with his leg over the man’s body while he waited for security to arrive.
Nelson said he posted the footage to draw attention to the violence healthcare workers face, and to show appreciation for those who handle aggression from patients.
“What if he’d picked a nurse half my size?” Nelson asked. “A new graduate? A student? Someone who simply couldn’t defend themselves?”
