as posted by the channelFebruary 1st, 1968, marked a tragic day for the City of Memphis Public Works Department and young Jack Walker. His father and another sanitation worker were sitting inside the back of an old garbage truck trying to stay out of the rain. The garbage compressing piston malfunctioned and Cole and Walker were crushed.
That tragic accident started a chain of events, leading Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Memphis and ultimately being a cornerstone of the civil rights movement. READ MORE
