The model served as the basis for the Allen Common Coordinate Framework (CCFv3) Version 3, a new high-resolution 3-D reference atlas of the mouse brain. To accurately map the true 3-D geometry of the cortex (the outer
layer of the brain), a mathematical equation was used to find the shortest curved paths to the brain surface. Some of these paths are shown here in the CCFv3 as multicolored "streamlines."
