Now, a new effort called Compassion Seattle — supported by non-profits, business groups and other community leaders — is looking to take the matter directly to voters through a city charter amendment.
The initiative would require the city to keep parks, playgrounds, sports fields, public spaces and sidewalks and streets clear of encampments once the mandated housing, drug, and mental health services are in place. Will this be the solution that will finally solve Seattle’s ongoing homelessness crisis?
