“True Christianity” doesn’t exist, but some of my fellow atheists act as if it does. Likewise, there is no such thing as a true Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Mormon, or any other religious label. There are thousands of ways to interpret scripture, and without external verification of the accounts they contain, why consider one more correct than another? There is no true interpretation of the Bible, so pointing out when Christians disobey its “commands” is of little use. The fact that all scripture is subject to personal interpretation demonstrates the fragility of the assertion that it is inherent, divine, ultimate truth, which directly communicates the mandates of a perfect creator. My fellow atheists need to remember that.
