15:22Now PlayingKeith Bennett, member of the CPGB-ML, talks to George Galloway on his weekly Russia Today current affairs program.
They discuss the State Visit of Xi Jinping to London, and his red carpet treatment at the hands of the conservative government - eager as they were to sign 40 billion pounds of investment deals.
Interestingly the Tory party have left both the usual prating of the British mainstream media (who again tried to focus on a handful of anti-Chinese cult protestors), and much of what passes for the British 'left' far behind in their appraisal of China - no doubt for their own 'mercantilist' reasons.
Noting both the chagrin of the US at the "golden era of anglo-chinese relations", and also Labour opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn's discomfiture, Keith goes on to make the very reasonable points that the Chinese people and government should be applauded by progressive mined British People for their astonishing economic growth and social programmes, which have lifted more than 500 million people out of poverty in the last 30 years - an real and concrete victory for the human rights of the Chinese people.
China is a growing political as well as economic power, and moreover is a major check on the otherwise unbridled desires of the US imperialists in their bid for world domination through ceaseless economic and military intervention and war.
An interesting and more balanced discussion than has been held in other corners of the media. We recommend also comrade Harpal's presentation given at a the recent meeting of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
