Peace processes, like love, never run smoothly. But few break-ups attracted as much attention as the Colombian referendum this month. After the long and painful process of bringing about an end to the 50-year war waged between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Colombian state, the process was supposed to leave the FARC unarmed and part of the political system. However, the narrow rejection of the deal has plunged the country and the region into deep uncertainty. Nick McWilliam was in Colombia during the campaign, so we invited him into the Sputnik studio to tell us what he made of the crisis.

The October Revolution of 1917, famously described by the American writer John Reed as "10 days that shook the world," continued to reverberate for many decades and gave birth to many things good and bad, including the socialist realist art-form, which though not without critics, has never really gone out of fashion, endlessly re-hashed as perhaps the ultimate in retro. So when we heard of the film ‘Revolution: New Art for a New World’, we just knew we needed to invite BAFTA award-winning director Margy Kinmonth aboard Sputnik so she could tell us about her latest film.
