As a child, Zaida did not have a lot of role models who looked like her or had a similar background. Hispanics make up 17% of the total workforce but only 8% are in STEM fields, and only 3% of these are females in STEM (according to Pew Research Center).
For this reason, Zaida spends a lot of her free time sharing her journey with students focusing on the Latinx community and encouraging them to pursue STEM careers.
