as posted by the channelCoronavirus cases within the US are expected to spike this week. Why? Because the CDC is enacting more widespread testing in all 50 states -- that means patients with a recent travel history will NOT be the only ones tested for the COVID 19 virus. Meanwhile, a CPAC attendee was confirmed over the weekend to have coronavirus, forcing Senator Ted Cruz, who interacted with the man, to self-quarantine. Both Glenn and Stu both attended the event as well, but neither of them are too concerned. Some more statistics, as of Monday, March 9:
-94 countries have confirmed cases
-13 percent of all cases are considered "serious" (requiring hospitalization), which is GOOD. On Friday, that number was at 17 percent, and it was at 19 percent the week before.
-27 additional cases in America were confirmed over teh weekend
-Italy has closed down 16 provinces, including Milan and Venice
-Italians in those regions can ONLY leave their areas for professional requirements, emergency situations, or for health reasons.
-Italy has suspended or cancelled ALL public gatherings, schools, museums, events, movies, etc.
-Restaurants and bars there remain open until 6pm, but only if a one meter safety distance is respected among patrons and employees.
-One virus expert says coronavirus is the scariest thing he's ever seen -- and that includes Ebola, MERS, and Sars.
-South Korea, which has been aggressive in both fighting and containing the coronavirus, is reporting a .5 percent death rate which is much lower than the 2 or 3 percent reported elsewhere in the world.
-There are now 1,200 suspected cases in the U.S.
