The Times' editorial page editor, James Bennet, resigned this weekend after publishing an op-ed written by Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton. The senator's editorial pushed for using federal, military force to prevent violent riots around the nation if local police departments found themselves unable to do so. But his words caused so much strife, even New York Times employees refused to show up for work as a sign of protest. Now the Times is in "deep, deep trouble," because leaders there just silenced the opinion of a U.S. Senator who represents at LEAST half the nation. But we shouldn't be surprised: the mob will ALWAYS be hungry for more.
