4:17Now PlayingThanks to a push from NBC News, Google recently censored two media companies: The Federalist and Zero Hedge. Reports originally said the decision was made because of stories published on Black Lives Matter, but then Google backtracked and said it was due to inappropriate and racist statements made in the comments section, instead. But Google likely wanted to keep the whole thing under wraps. Why? Because the decision exposes Google's dangerous powers and protections as a "platform." Its protected in a way that "publishers" -- like the ones being censored -- aren't. But here's the thing: platforms like Google and Facebook don't act like unbiased platforms anymore. They're publishers -- pushing certain viewpoints, ideologies, and beliefs -- and so they should be treated like a publisher, too.
