This Feels Like a Pivotal Moment

A few days ago, I sat down with a heavy heart to talk about the need to not be led by anger, but instead to dare to hope. I filmed it, edited it, and scheduled it for the end of the week.

Then Charlie Kirk was assassinated.

Suddenly, the video felt both more necessary, but also potentially tone deaf. In the end, I decided to keep the video, but add onto it to address this tragic news.

I didn't know Charlie Kirk, nor would we agree on everything, but I am deeply troubled by rising rates of political violence from all sides in this country. Additionally, I'm worried about how we respond.

It seems to me that we find ourselves as a church and a culture at a pivotal crossroads. Already, the way of anger has been seen as the most effective way of reaching people for either the gospel or our political ideologies. The thing about that, is anger and violence only seem to breed more of the same. And that really concerns me.
